soccerIt is now more than five years ago since Fifa president Sepp Blatter stepped to the podium in Zurich and pulled South Africa’s name from the envelope designating the host of the 2010 World Cup finals.
Just a few months are left before the first kick off on June 11, the culmination of more than a decade of campaigning, bidding and then planning and constructing for the world’s biggest sporting show. It will be like no other event in this country’s history and a culmination of two decades working back into the league of nations after a lifetime of isolation. It will be a time to celebrate for South Africa, and cause to pause and reflect on the country’s achievements over the last years and its potential going forward.
